Blog about a blog

It feels a little funny writing a blog about another blog, but that is just what this is. I must confess right from the beginning that, although I agree that blogs are fantastic learning tools, they are not really for me. I have found my Ning to be far better suited to house a lot of different kinds of projects, since writing is not my main focus. I know that I can embed code and do most of the things here that I do on my Ning, but it just seems that the Ning is set up for sharing of voice, pics, videos, as opposed to text-heavy blogs.

I have set up a Ning for each of my classes (as well as the one I made to generate donations for my friends in Chile), and I just like it. It seems to be very user friendly. It does have its limits, but I have liked being able to post pics, videos, Vokis, music videos, etc. with few problems.

I do have a Facebook page, but to be completely honest, I don’t have time to keep up. As many of us have expressed before, I am on information overload. As much as I love technology, I really prefer the old fashioned face-to-face communication when possible.

I am still experimenting with both Wimba and Eluminate. I have used the voice announcement button and am playing with the other voice features. I think both the voice discussion board and the Eluminate Live features are awesome and have great potential for more realistic communication in a language course.

This is a sample of a Voki that I made. I plan to have students do their first two presentations using a Voki. The first one using a computer generated voice, followed by a second one using their own voice.
